What a shame! Alina Talay misses out on 100m hurdles final in Rio

Runner Alina Talay failed to reach the Olympic 100m Hurdles final in Brazil. A mistake in the semi-final lead to her finishing last with 13.66 seconds after being second on the distance.

Talay started the race with confidence and was running on second-third position, when she lost her balance off the eighth hurdle and almost came to grief.  The athlete lost momentum and finished behind all its competitors, to a great disappointment of 2015 world bronze medallist supporters.

Later Alina Talay invited journalists for a meeting and apologized for her mistake.

“The semi-final was the “race of death.” I was competing with three European medalists, world champion… I had to run as if it were the final. I risked everything. And until the seventh hurdle I was second… No comment…”, the runner said.

“Surely I wanted a better result — just as my fans and the country. But… Such things do happen. Now, I think, my season is over. We’ll see if my career ends with this sad note. Now I need to decide whether or not to proceed with my training. Maybe I will take a break for six months to recover”.

Alina Talay called the Rio semi-final race one of the most difficult in her career.
