Tikhanovsky Took Part In Meeting With Lukashenko, Kolesnikova Refused To Come

Sergei Tikhanovsky did indeed take part in the meeting with Alexander Lukashenko on 10 October in the KGB pre-trial detention center. After it, Lukashenko allowed Sergei to call his wife and ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. The conversation with Svetlana took place in the presence of guards. Another opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova refused to take part in the meeting.

As Sergei Tikhanovsky told his lawyer Viktor Matskevich, people in masks took him from the Zhodino pre-trial detention center early in the morning. They brought him to the KGB pre-trial detention center in Minsk, they took him to a small hall. There were plates with the names of the prisoners on the table: Babariko, Znak, Salei, Shklyarov, etc.. There were 12 people in total, and this event came as a surprise to all of them.

“Lukashenko came in and started shaking hands. Sergei avoids shaking hands, fears the coronavirus. He also didn’t want to be filmed. Then there was a five-hour conversation with Lukashenko, where he spoke most of the time.

Tikhanovsky still tried to express his position that he was in custody on unfounded charges, and, taking advantage of the presence of a press secretary, he resented that the state media is spreading false information about the fact that he works for the Russian Federation, for the West, about his acquaintance with Shklyarov, etc.,”  said Viktor Matskevich.

Tikhanovsky also asked why his wife Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was put on the wanted list, and why Maria Kolesnikova was not at the meeting. Later it became known that Maria refused to leave the Zhodino pre-trial detention centre, where she said she was safer “than traveling with strangers”.

Tikhanovsky was given to understand that he would not be released from custody soon. At the same time, it was said that the fate of the prisoners will be decided by the investigation and the court, and everything was under control.

“As my client explained, when talking about the constitutional reform, he, Tikhanovsky, said that he and those present and interested are ready and could express their proposals, but not handcuffed and in prison, but of their own free will,” added Matskevich.

Tikhanovsky spent the night of 10-11 in October the KGB pre-trial detention center. On 11 October, all those present at the meeting were taken outside Minsk to a bathhouse, then Tikhanovsky was returned to the Zhodino pre-trial detention center.
