Tikhanovskaya, Kolesnikova And Tsepkalo Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

Geir Toskedal, a member of the Norwegian parliament from the Christian Democratic Party, nominated three leaders of the Belarusian opposition – ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Maria Kolesnikova and Veronica Tsepkalo – for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021, Vart Land reports.

The Norwegian deputy believes that they have earned an award “for their struggle for fair elections and as inspirers of peaceful demonstrations against the illegitimate regime in Belarus”.

He expressed hope that nomination would draw “even more attention to the peaceful struggle waged against Europe’s last dictator”, and to all those engaged in the fight for “a free and democratic Belarus.”

In September, the leader of the largest supranational party in the EU – the conservative European People’s Party – Donald Tusk also proposed nominating Sergei Tikhanovsky and Svetlana Tikhanovskaya for the Nobel Peace Prize.
