Belarusian opposition challenger Svetlana Tikhanovskaya recorded a video address to the European Council. In the video, she urges EU member states not to recognise the results of the presidential election, which independent observers say were rigged.
She has appealed to EU leaders to “support the awakening” of the country ahead of an emergency EU summit to discuss the crisis in Belarus on Wednesday, 19 August.
“Lukashenko has lost all the legitimacy in the eyes of our nation and the world,” Tikhanovskaya said in a video posted on YouTube. In a video appearance, she also called on the EU leaders to reject fraudulent poll results and back the efforts for a peaceful transition of power.
