Jared Padalecki, an American actor best known for playing the role of Sam Winchester in the TV series Supernatural, has shared a photo with old Belarusian money. Why did he do that and what all this buzz about?
The superstar has taken a photo of Belarusian bills which were used in the 1990s: a bill of 50 kopecks with an image of a squirrel and a banknote of 25 rubles with a moose.

“Now that I see there won’t be any serious repercussions, I’d like to publicly thank the country of #Belarus for colluding with me on the design of their official currency…I’d say we had a perfect phone call. (Except, the MOOSE was supposed to be worth more!!” he captioned the photo on his Instagram.
What’s so funny about it? A moose is a nickname Jared has picked up over the years and is even called so in the series, because he’s bulky and tall compared to everyone else on set. Dean, another Supernatural’s main character, is called a squirrel for similar reasons.
Besides, Supernatural merch features both these animal silhouettes. No wonder, the actor was impressed, when he saw the banknotes. Belarus Ministry of Foreign Affairs joined other Belarusians and invited Jared to come visit moose of Belovezhskaya Pushcha when he has a chance.

The banknotes of 1992 had pictures of Belarusian animals (squirrel, hare, bison, bear, moose, lynx etc.). After the 1994 denomination animals were removed from the money but Belarusians keep affectionately calling their national currency belki (squirrels) and zaitsy (hares).
