Let’s jump in an improvised time machine and imagine it’s the 1980s in Belarus. Together with the famous photographer, let’s recall how Minskers went sledging and had fun in snowy winters.
Vadim Kachan shot a lot of Minsk and its residents in the 1980s, now he is teaching photography. The photographer took these pictures in Gorky Park and in Adam Mickiewicz’s public garden.
There you can see sledges, which now almost nowhere to be found, with long sleds. They were called Finnish and could be rented in parks. One person sat in a front seat, while another stood behind him on the sleds and kicked off with his foot. In Gorky Park, children could ride a horse-drawn sleigh and slide down a metal slide, which was watered to make it icy.”
In addition to the happy faces of children and their parents, one can see houses on the streets of Nemiga and Myasnikova and plenty of lovely city details. Hope you enjoyed it!
