05/20/2020. Bobruisk, Mogilev region. Doctors of the city ambulance station protest against meager allowances for work in a pandemic

Earlier, Bobruisk paramedics who treat COVID-19 patients filed a complaint to Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko. They stated that they were not paid additional pay promised by the president. The appeal was signed by 200 people.

The management then held a staff meeting to reassure everyone and explain how the presidential decree works. However, when a TV crew of a state channel came to cover the story, a scandal broke out.

Doctors were indignant when they found out that the crew was to show a “pretty picture”. Out of two hundred dissatisfied employees, the reporters interviewed only two who got their allowances. As a result, shooting was stopped and correspondents left with nothing.

Later Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik commented on the incident, he explained that out of 290 health workers extra pay was awarded to 118 people. The agency didn’t identify any violations.
