A year after winning the Nobel Prize in Literature Svetlana Alexievich is setting up an intellectual club in Minsk.
Her idea is to create a space for intellectual discussion with the most outstanding modern public figures. The meetings of the club will be organized monthly and will be free for the public, with preliminary registration required.
The speaker at the first meeting of the club is Olga Sedakova, a Russian poet, novelist, translator, linguist and ethnographer.
Svetlana Alexievich promised to be very selective in regard to speakers whom she would invite. “We will keep to a very level”, the writer told the media.
And, most importantly, away from politics. “From the very beginning I am going to ask everyone to refrain from political rallying at our meetings, as it will lead us to nowhere. We should concentrate on deep-seated problems instead and find the foundation that will help a thinking mind to survive”, she remarked.
The first meeting of the club is scheduled for 7 December at Gallery TUT.BY.
