The Minsk Half Marathon was postponed to the next year, the Belarusian Athletics Federation reported. The race was supposed to take place on 13 September.
“Health and safety of our participants is a fundamental objective for the organizers. For this reason, as well as based on the recommendations of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Sports and Tourism Ministry, a difficult decision was made to postpone the Minsk Half Marathon to 12 September 2021,” the federation explained.
They explained that registration for the event will continue, and all the payments already made will be valid for next year.
The Minsk Half Marathon was one of the very few sports events that didn’t get on the list of the events cancelled or postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was scheduled for 13 September with a $60,000 prize fund.
It was planned that more than 40,000 people will take part in it. It was earlier reported that most participants chose the 5,5 km mass distance, while most star athletes were going to challenge the 21,1 km distance.
