Minsk Airport Included In City Limits, Expands Capital By 321 Hectares

Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree that changed the borders of Minsk and Smolevichi district of Minsk oblast. The document is published on the National Legal Portal.

According to the document, land plots of legal entities with a total area of over 321 hectares will be included into the capital limits.

As from 1 January 2020, these areas will be part of Oktyabrsky District of Minsk. The changes are explained by the integrated development of the area around Minsk National Airport.

A proposal to include the land near the Minsk National Airport into the city limits was put forward by Minsk Mayor Anatoly Sivak this summer.

Back then he explained that the airport has to maintain all the engineering networks and land improvements. This affects the price of airport services for all airlines.

“In order for us to develop the lands, we should think of them as urban areas with landscaping, outdoor lighting, car parking, water intakes, storm drains,” Sivak said.
