The Match Europe v USA kicked off with an opening ceremony at Minsk Dinamo Stadium on 9 September. The strongest athletes of the planet arrived in Belarus to find out who is the best in a fair fight.
It was dynamic and very spectacular! Victories found their heroes in 18 personal disciplines and in 2 relay races. Let’s have a look at the highlights of the first competitive day of the Match.
The major theme of the opening ceremony was about the continuity of times and started with the history of Ancient Greece
The storyline went on with the Soviet period when the first USSR-USA matches were played

Alexandra Bell from the UK won the women’s 800m brigning the European team 9 points
American Keira Sea Brown finished third in the 800m race brining 6 points to the US team
High jumper Maxim Nedosekov from Vitebsk set a personal record at the competition – 2.35 m. This is the best result of the 2019 season
A neutral athlete from Russia Ilya Ivanyuk showed the second result of the day for high jumpers – 2.31 m.
Despite the good weather, runners with obstacles wet their feet. The best of then was the American Hillary Bor
Belarusian Tatyana Kholodovich showed good but, unfortunately, not the best results in javelin throwing – 64.41 m
The American core pusher Josh Avwtunde lacked 11 cm to a personal record. The winner among the pushers is Darrell Hill with 22.35cm

American sprinters took 1st and 3rd places in the relay 4 × 100 m, gaining 15 points out of 16 in the discipline
