Lukashenko Appoints New Rectors Of MSLU, BSUKI And BrSTU To Restore Order

Alexander Lukashenko has changed the leadership of Minsk State Linguistic University, Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, as well as at Brest State Technical University, Pul Pervogo reports.

“Recently, university life has been under intense scrutiny. And, presumably, the president made personnel decisions in order to restore order there,” the statement reads.

  • MSLU was headed by the Dean of the Faculty of German Language Natalya Lapteva;
  • First Deputy Minister of Culture Natalya Karchevskaya became the rector of BSUKI;
  • BrSTU was headed by former Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of BNTU Alexander Bakhanovich.

On 9 October, Alexander Lukashenko expressed dissatisfaction with the work of some heads of higher educational institutions.

“The behavior of some students shows their, to put it mildly, careless attitude to higher education. This can lead to the loss of its value as a significant social stage. Rectors of universities are not doing enough. In the near future, within a week, we must solve the staffing problem for such universities,” he said then.
