Lukashenko Hands Over Gifts From Belarus To Donald And Melania Trump

Last week was pretty eventful for Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, he met with the U.S. President’s National Security Adviser John Bolton, didn’t celebrate his birthday and picked watermelons at his residence.

On the sidelines of the official meeting with Mr. Bolton, the president handed over gifts for American leader Donald Trump and his wife Melania.

The president chose a navy officer’s dagger for Donald Trump and a linen tablecloth with napkins for the first lady.

“I ‘interfered’ in the U.S. election and supported Trump,” Alexander Lukashenko joked recalling that he was a “fan” of Trump ahead of the election 2016.

Alexander Lukashenko also referred to Melania Trump’s Slavic roots – she was born in Slovenia – saying “This a woman’s thing. She is no stranger to Slavic linen,” the head of state said.

John Bolton received sugar-free chocolates, including a chocolate set created for the 2nd European Games. Another gift is the illustrated book Belarusian Heritage.

“This is about Belarus. You will flip through the pages during your flight and will see what Belarus is about,” the Belarusian leader explained.

“Give the best regards to your president from the people of Belarus. The family origins of his son-in-law (Jared Kushner – BelarusFeed note) are here in Belarus,” the head of state added.

On August 29, Minsk hosted negotiations between the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and the adviser to the President of the United States on national security John Bolton.

The parties particularly discussed regional security, bilateral cooperation and a number of other issues. John Bolton is one of the most senior U.S. officials who visited Belarus in the last years.
