Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is to pay a working visit to China on 25-27 April, the media cite the president’s press service.
Aleksandr Lukashenko will participate in the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing. The Belarusian leader will hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum.
“Alexander Lukashenko will present the proposals of the Belarusian side to develop this global initiative, deepen cooperation in the Eurasian region with an emphasis on creating an equal and transparent system of international trade,” the press service reported.
It is planned that the Belarusian head of state will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to discuss major joint projects. Besides, the two leaders will talk about regional cooperation and prospects of Belarus-China cooperation in various spheres.
Aleksandr Lukashenko will meet with our leaders in Beijing, including Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Belarus Expands Trade With China
Belarus has made serious progress in relations with China, investments are growing, the export structure is changing, joint projects are multiplying, Belarus Ambassador to China Kirill Rudy said in a recent interview.
According to the diplomat, Belarus’ exports rose by 28% last year. The structure of export has changed with the share of potash fertilizers, the dominant product, decreasing from 80% to 55%, while non-resource exports grew by 66%.
Direct investment from China almost tripled, and the number of Chinese tourists to Belarus increased by 21% in 2018.
Thanks to the Belt and Road initiative, Belarus has become the logistics center for international rail transportation from China to Europe and back.
“80% of all rail traffic transits through our territory; about 3,000 trains from China to Europe last year. Belarus is an example and indicator of the success of Belt and Road program,” Kirill Rudy said.
