Belarusian Student Wins Gold At International Mathematical Olympiad In Brazil

Students from 111 countries competed at 58th International Mathematical Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro on 12-23 July. Belarusian national team won six awards – one gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

Belarusian Yahor Dubovik, 11th grade student from Gomel, won the gold medal. He finished 7th in the individual standings, scoring 29 points out of 42 possible.

His teammate Aliaksei Vasileuski from Minsk returns home with a silver, while four students of the Lyceum of the Belarusian State University – Anton Paliukhovich, Andrey Naradzetski, Illia Pchalintsau and Aliaksandr Yuran – are coming back with bronze awards.

In total, 623 contestants from 111 countries took part in the Olympiad this year.

Individual Top 3 includes school students from Iran, Japan and Vietnam. The Korean team won in the team test.

Belarus ranked 14th in the country rankings.
