More Prominent Healthcare Workers Sentenced To 12-15 Days Of Arrest

On the day when the number of new COVID-19 cases in Belarus exceeded the mark of one thousand, more healthcare workers were sentenced to 12-15 days of arrest.

Trials of healthcare workers in Belarus continue. Recall that last Saturday, several dozen people were detained during a rally near the 1st hospital in Minsk. More than 10 of them were tried yesterday. Well-known and simply irreplaceable doctors have been sentenced to 12-15 days of arrest.

Igor Gotin, a radiologist at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Oncology was sentenced to a maximum term of 15 days of arrest. Vitaly Khlyavich, a doctor of ultrasound diagnostics [mammology], will spent 14 days behind the bars.

Oncologist-surgeon Yury Ivashkevich will serve 12 days of arrest. He pleaded not guilty. Ivashkevich works at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Oncology, he has over 30 years of experience. Dentist Natalya Akimova was sentenced to 15 days of arrest. The decision was made by the Leninsky District Court of Minsk. The woman will celebrate her 67th birthday in detention.

Dmitry Strelkov, a doctor, head of the shift at ambulance substation No. 8, said in court that he was beaten during his arrest on 8 November and pleaded not guilty. The judge’s decision is 15 days of arrest. Yesterday Natalya Yermolaeva, an anesthetist nurse at the Minsk Oncology Dispensary, as well as senior doctor of the 9th ambulance substation Vadim Karagulkin were sentenced to 15 days of arrest too.

Trials over those detained in Minsk on 8-9 November are underway too. Among the accused of violating Art. 23.24 Administrative Code Tatiana Sinitsa, she is PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the BSU. The court fined her 30 basic units – BYN 810 [~$320 / €270]. The teacher was detained on Independence Avenue during the march of seniors yesterday.

Her colleague, teacher at the Faculty of International Relations in BSU Denis Tushinsky was detained on 8 November. The judge sent him to serve 15 days of arrest. In total, according to the deregistered human rights center Vesna, about 60 people were sentenced to serve X days of arrest, about 30 were fined, as of 4.45 pm on 10 Novermber.
