Foreigners In Belarus Can Get Tax Free Cash Refund At Border Checkpoints

Foreigners leaving the country can get the Tax Free cash refund at all checkpoints on the border of Belarus, the State Customs Committee reports.

Belarus expanded the list of checkpoints where foreigners can claim a VAT or Tax Free refund in cash.

At present the refunds can be made at Minsk National Airport and 18 checkpoints on the border with Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine.

Now such operations are availabale at 27 Belarusbank offices at the border with:

  • Poland (Berestovitsa, Bruzgi, Kozlovichi, Domachevo, Peschatka, and Brest),
  • Lithuania (Privalka, Benyakoni, Kamenny Log, Kotlovka),
  • Latvia (Grigorovshchina, Urbany),
  • Ukraine (Novaya Guta, Novaya Rudnya, Verkhni Terebezhev, Mokrany, Glushevichi, Komarin).

Foreigners won’t be charged a commission for claiming the cash refund at the offices located at these checkpoints.

The refund makes up 15% of a purchase amount (VAT not included). Previously, the refund carried out only by cashless transfer to a bank card.

Tax-Free shopping has been available in Belarus for over five years. There are more than 460 tax-free partner stores in Belarus.

The VAT refund makes 12.5% of the purchase amount. The service is eligible for receipts over 80 BYN (~ 37$/€33,  as of December 2018 – note BelarusFeed).
