A fire station-themed restaurant was opened in Minsk, in the building of the city’s first fire department that had been built in 1885.
Welcome to the hot spot to be!
What was once an old firehouse was transformed into a contemporary restaurant space with a large refurbished car-like bar and fire-extinguisher-lamps.
To create a legacy that honors the profession of firefighting, a museum about its history was created on the second and third floors of the building.
A nod to the building’s former life is seen through the restaurant’s industrial decor – the car, foaming agents and fire hoses, everything was in use.
“I collected interior design items from all over Belarus, asked them to be transferred from fire stations, ” says Emil Angelov, the owner of the 101 restaurant.
In order to keep the good old memories alive and respecting the history of the building, the original brickwork was preserved and others painted with Minsk views.
The 101 restaurant is designed for 50 places. The old fire station is ready to treat its guests from Sunday to Wednesday 12 pm to midnight, and till 2 am on other days.
“The uniform is similar to the rescuers’, but there are no signs of the Ministry of Emergency Situations or state symbols – the law prohibits it.”
Another firefighting themed spot, a bus with tea, coffee, snacks and grill, may appear in Minsk this autumn. A similar restaurant, as well as the bus, have been already working in Mogilev.
