Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, is expected to come to Minsk by the end of the week.
The news was made public by Founder and Director of the Council for International Relations Minsk Dialogue Evgeniy Preigerman at a press conference in Minsk on 30 September.
According to the official, Federica Mogherini won’t participate in the forthcoming ‘Minsk Dialogue Forum: European Security: Stepping Back from the Brink‘ on 7-8 October.
Due to a busy schedule, the only time when Mogherini can visit Belarus is a few days before the forum. Therefore, the high-level visit of the EU delegation will take place this Friday or Saturday.
“We wanted to co-locate these events but the schedule did not allow that,” Preigerman said. Recall that the Eastern Partnership initiative is to be held in Belarus’ capital on 4-5 October.
With the EU adopting a new visa code, visa fees for Belarusians willing to enter the EU countries will rise from €60 to €80 in 2020. If an agreement is reached, the fees will be set at €35. The deal also provides for a simplified visa facilitation process and exemptions.
Minsk Dialogue Forum will gather senior officials, high-profile representatives and leading experts from the EU, Russia, USA, China, and East European and South Caucasian nations.
The Eastern Partnership (EaP) is a joint initiative involving the EU, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. It aims at building a common area of shared democracy, prosperity, stability and increased cooperation.
