Hundreds of women were back on the streets of Belarus on Thursday morning in a show of solidarity with demonstrators who were brutlally detained during protests against election results many say was rigged. Doctors, builders and workers are joining the women’s peaceful protest.
In several areas of Minsk, hundreds of women carrying flowers and portraits of their friends and loved ones detained during protests formed long “lines of solidarity.” They called for an end to the crackdown on protests over the disputed election.
It was the second day in a row such actions took place in Belarus’ capital. Similar scenes were also reported elsewhere in the country. Most peaceful demonstrations stood unchallenged by police, which then dispersed some of them without violence.
Lines of solidarity were also reported in Brest, Vitebsk, Glubokoye, Mogilev, Grodno, Bereza, Zaslavl, Molodechno, Stolbtsy.
