Direct Train Will Run From Brest To Budapest In December 2019

A direct train linking Brest and Hungary’s capital of Budapest will start running mid-December 2019, Zviazda reports.

An eagerly awaited train will bear the name of Stephen Báthory and have passenger cars with stops in Vienne and Prague.

The news was made public during the negotiations between the leadership of the Belarusian and Polish State Railways.

The official start date is yet unknown, direct rail services will begin immediately after the approval of the timetable for 2019-2020.

Note that a temporary train from Brest to Warsaw will be launched ahead of the 2nd European Games in Minsk. Starting mid-December the route will become regular.

By the end of the year, direct trains between Brest and Warsaw will run twice a day. Rail operators believe that the direct route, connecting two cities, will make it easier fans from Western and Central Europe to come to Belarus.

In case you planned to visit Kyiv, Vilnius or Riga, a four-capitals train that started operating last September is at your disposal.

Meanwhile, World Bank has called on Belarus to reform and restructure railway sector to boost competitiveness, passenger experience and economy.

The institution pointed out the challenges and suggested the ways of addressing them that include restructuring, tariff reforms and strategic use of digital technologies.
