The Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and the BYPOL [former investigators and law enforcers] association. According to TASS, the case was initiated for planning a terror attack.
As Prosecutor General Andrei Shved told the media, a criminal case was initiated against Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and BYPOL.
“Based on the materials submitted by the State Security Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case against Tikhanovskaya and the participants of the so-called BYPOL initiative for the preparation of a terrorist act by an organized group under Article 289 of the Criminal Code (Act of Terrorism). A few days ago the abovementioned persons tried to carry out explosions and arson attacks in the capital and other cities. Detained red-handed citizen Maleichuk has already testified about the organizers and participants of the terrorist act,” Sputnik Belarus quotes Shved.
According to Shved, the organizers were going to blame the Belarusian authorities for the incident.
Recall that BYPOL issued a warning about the Belarusian authorities allegedly preparing a terrorist attack on Freedom Day, 25 March. Earlier, Minsk police called on Belarusians to refrain from participating in unauthorized actions in view of a high risk of provocations.
