COVID-19 Self-Isolation Period In Belarus May Be Reduced To 10 Days

The period of COVID-19 related self-isolation may be reduced to 10 days, the Healthcare Ministry reports in its Telegram channel with referrence to the government website.

The Healthcare Ministry, together with those concerned, prepared and submitted to the government a draft decree of the Council of Ministers dated 13 October, 2020. The project proposes to reduce the self-isolation period from 14 to 10 calendar days from the date of the last contact [of a confirmed COVID-19 case]. People in self-isolation are allowed, in case of emergency, to visit a healthcare organisation to receive emergency or urgent medical care.

It is also proposed to expand the list of persons exempt from self-isolation requirements. These requirements may not apply to:

  • heads and members of official delegations;
  • persons traveling through the territory Belarus in transit and having documents that confirm their departure within one day;
  • citizens of Belarus, foreign citizens and stateless persons permanently residing in Belarus who arrived in Belarus after being on a business trip from countries in which cases of COVID-19 are registered, as well as from countries not included in the list and who were in transit through countries included in the list, provided that these persons have documentary evidence of transit through the country included in the list;
  • persons transporting stem cells, organs for transplantation.

The draft decree provides that foreign citizens and stateless persons, except for permanent residents of Belarus, who arrived from countries not included in the list, when crossing the Belarusian border must have an original medical document (in Russian, Belarusian or English) confirming a negative result laboratory test for COVID-19, made no later than 72 hours before the date of the border crossing.

In addition, border guards, and at the checkpoints where border control is carried out by customs authorities, customs officials will check the availability of this medical document for foreign citizens. The resolution comes into force after its official publication.
