COVID-19 In Belarus: 328 Newly Infected And Five Deaths In 24 Hours

As of 30 June, 62,118 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Belarus. The daily increase of new infections is 328 cases per day, the Healthcare Ministry reports.

46,054 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals (+841 in the 24 hours). 392 coronavirus patients (+5 in the 24 hours) have died since the outbreak. Belarus has conducted 1,000,785 tests (+8,778 in the 24 hours). The percentage of positive test results per day is a bit higher than in the previous few days – 3,7.

Lithuanian professor Saulius Čaplinskas believes that the country is start ing to cope with the epidemic, when the percentage of positive test results is 3% per day or less. Batyr Berdyklychev, the WHO representative in Belarus, still recommends to follow recommended preventive measures: respiratory etiquette, hand hygiene, physical distancing, wearing masks.

Meanwhile, the Healthcare Ministry officials don’t exclude the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 in the country. However, Healthcare Minsiter Vladimir Karanik hopes that the gained experience will help and the health system will be more prepared for the new wave.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko explained that doctors are currently monitoring patients with pneumonia since tests can be not informative enough for COVID-19 diagnostics. He also noted that there are 1100 patients with heavy form of disease.
