COVID-19 In Belarus: 67,366 Cases Since Outbreak, 115 Newly Infected

As of 28 July, 67,366 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Belarus. The number of new infections per day is 115, the Healthcare Ministry reports

60,669 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals (+177 patients in the 24 hours); 543 coronavirus patients have died (+5 in the 24 hours) since the outbreak. That is there are 6,154 COVID-19 infected people in the country at the moment.

Belarus has conducted 1,270,082 tests since the outbreak (+12,683in the 24 hours). The percentage of positive test results is 0,9. Earlier Lithuanian professor Saulius Čaplinskas stated that the country is starting to cope with the epidemic, when the percentage of positive test results is 3% per day or less.

Meanwhile, Head of the CEC Lidia Yermoshina said that about 41,000 Belarusians are contacts of the first level, or are infected with COVID-19 and stay quarantined – not taking into account those who are currently in hospitals.

The Healthcare Ministry doesn’t exclude the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 but hopes that it won’t be so large-scale. According to experts, the second wave in Belarus may begin in September.

Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik said that there has been a steady positive trend in Belarus recently. According to President Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus spent nearly half a billion rubles to counter the coronavirus outbreak.
