As of 26 June, 60,713 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Belarus. The daily increase of new infections has dropped by 100 cases, that is 331 cases per day, the Healthcare Ministry reports.
42,689 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals (+1,241 in the 24 hours). 373 coronavirus patients (+6 in the 24 hours) have died since the outbreak. Belarus has conducted 939,524 tests (+20,385 in the 24 hours). The percentage of positive test results per day is 1,6.
Lithuanian professor Saulius Čaplinskas believes that the country is start ing to cope with the epidemic, when the percentage of positive test results is 3% per day or less. Batyr Berdyklychev, the WHO representative in Belarus, still recommends to follow recommended preventive measures: respiratory etiquette, hand hygiene, physical distancing, wearing masks.

Meanwhile, the Healthcare Ministry officials don’t exclude the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 in the country. However, Healthcare Minsiter Vladimir Karanik hopes that the gained experience will help and the health system will be more prepared for the new wave.

According to the calculations of Belarusian scientists, a situation where there will be a little more than 10 new cases per day is possible only at the very end of the summer. For example, a mathematical model showed that on 31 August, 12 new cases of COVID-19 can be registered, and the total number of cases will exceed 68,000.
