As of 24 June, 59,945 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Belarus. The daily increase of new infections is 458 cases, the Healthcare Ministry reports. For the first time, the percentage of positive test results per day fell below 3.
40,136 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals (+1,448 in the 24 hours). 362 coronavirus patients (+5 in the 24 hours) have died since the outbreak. Belarus has conducted 901,904 tests (+15,656 in the 24 hours).

Lithuanian professor Saulius Čaplinskas believes that the country is starting to cope with the epidemic, when the percentage of positive test results is 3% per day or less. Earlier, Batyr Berdyklychev, the WHO representative in Belarus, noted that Belarus is still at the stage of local transmission of the virus, which is is a rather serious situation.

“It is neccessary to follow recommended preventive measures, such as respiratory etiquette, hand hygiene, to increase physical distancing, in places where wearing masks isn’t possible. This is very important, because in this period, when people, are a little tired and relaxed, there is still a danger and the possibility of an increase in the number of cases,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Healthcare Ministry officials don’t exclude the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19 in the country. However, Healthcare Minsiter Vladimir Karanik hopes that the experience gained will benefit, so the health system will be more prepared for the new wave.
According to the calculations of Belarusian scientists, a situation where there will be a little more than 10 new cases per day is possible only at the very end of the summer. For example, a mathematical model showed that on 31 August, 12 new cases of COVID-19 can be registered, and the total number of cases will exceed 68,000.
