As of 5 May, there are 18,350 people diagnosed with COVID-19 in Belarus. It means that a daily increase is 973 new cases, ATN Telegram channel reports.
“This is just 8,7% of the total number of those who were tested for the virus. As of the morning there were 211,369 in two and a half months,” said Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.
Recall that epidemiologist Viktor Suschevich projects the peak incidence of COVID-19 on the twentieth of May, after which the epidemic will allegedly decline.
To develop collective immunity, about 60-70% of the population in Belarus should recover from the virus. Also, on 3 May, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko stated that only 10% of lung ventilators are currently in use in Belarus.
Earlier the WHO experts who visited Belarus in April described the situation in Belarus as concerning and called on the immediate implementation of community-wide measures of physical distancing.
