As of 23 April, 8,022 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Belarus, the Healthcare Ministry reports. This is a record number of cases per day since the outbreak.
Thus, a daily increase of infected people in the country is 741 new cases. The previous maximum figure of 575 cases per day was reported on 17 April. As many as 122,543 coronavirus tests have been performed in Belarus so far, the ministry said.
Sixty coronavirus patients have died. Meanwhile, 938 patients previously diagnosed with COVID-19 have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. Yesterday, 7,281 COVID-19 cases have been registered in the country, 58 patients died.
Experts note that they mostly not imported cases, that is the virus is transmitted from person to person within the country. The peak incidence is expected in late April-early May. The country’s chief sanitary doctor believes that the incidence should decrease in the next three to four weeks.
On April 20, after three weeks of vacation in Belarus, children returned to school. Many parents decided to leave their children at home. The Ministry of Education reported that approximately 30-40% of all students physically attend the classes.
