Chancellor Of Austria To Visit Minsk For Talks And WWII Memorial Opening

Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz will be visiting Minsk on 28-29 March.

The program of the official’s visit includes talks with Belarusian officials and memorial events.

Sebastian Kurz will take part in the ceremony of laying a wreath at Victory Square and open a monument to Austrian victims of Trostenets death camp together with Belarus president Alexander Lukashenko.

According to the Austrian Embassy in Belarus, the Austrian delegation will include about 40 people: representatives of Jewish communities, relatives of the Austrian Jews killed in Trostenets, representatives of Austrian business circles.

Austrian Chancellor will hold talks with Lukashenko and Prime Minister Sergei Rumas. A number of other events, including a memorable requiem concert, will be held.

The visit of Kurz follows the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Karin Kneissl to Belarus in January 2019 and the opening of the new office of the embassy.

Sebastian Kurz first visited Minsk in 2015 when he served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Shortly afterwards Austria announced plans to open embassy in Minsk.

The diplomatic representation was inaugurated in February 2016.
