On the night of 14 August, they came out lost, shaken and with giant bruises all over their bodies from the detention center on Okrestin street in Minsk, to be met by waiting relatives, friends and journalists.
As they reunited with their loved ones, people who were detained during post-election peaceful protests across Belarus shared their harrowing accounts of police brutality during and after arrest, and displayed the black-and-blue hematomas on their bodies.

The accounts are fueling outrage at home and have European countries weighing new sanctions against responsible officials in Belarus.
