Last week in his address to the nation and the parliament President Alexander Lukashenko announced the year when the parliamentary election will take place in Belarus.
“I see it will be a Thursday. (Elections) in Belarus are usually held on Sundays. We should see how the idea lives up to the labor laws and whether it can be done on a public holiday instead of weekends,” he said.
Shortly afterward Lidia Yermoshina noted that the Constitution requires that a presidential election has to be held at least two months before the term of office expires.
In other words, 30 August 2020 is the last day that fits,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
The exact date of the presidential election in Belarus can be set during the spring session of the parliament that ends on 25 June 2019.
Speaking about the forthcoming parliamentary election, she noted that 30 August is a good date as voters are in the city as the school year starts on 1 September.

Besides, schools hosting polling stations have been renovated and weather conditions for outdoor events such as signature collection and rallies are favorable, she added.
Recall that earlier Yermoshina proposed to hold parliamentary elections on November 17, 2019, that is, ten months before the date of expiration of the term of office.
