Belarus’ Flag Raised At Pyeonghang Olympic Village

The ceremony of raising the national flag of Belarus has taken place at the Olympic Village in Pyeongchang, South Korea  for the 23rd Olympic Winter Games 2018.

Belarus is ready to win!

The event was held by Ryu Seung-min, Mayor of the PyeongChang Olympic Village on Wednesday, 7 February.

“The ceremony to hoist the Belarusian national flag means that the Olympic Games are about to start.

Today we have all gathered here and it is pleasant to see our athletes.

During such a solemn moment the athletes feel the support of the entire country,” biathlete Darya Domracheva said.

Belarus Announces Its Olympic Team 2018

Sergei Dolidovich, a Belarusian cross country skier who has competed since 1994, stated that the flag raising ceremony is always very exciting for him.

“When the country’s flag is raised at such huge competitions, I always feel very excited, full of patriotic feelings,” he said.

The traditional ceremony of hoisting up national flags at the Olympic Village is one of the oldest and most important symbolic events of the Games.

It precedes the official opening of Olympic Games and symbolizes the readiness of the country’s Olympians to participate in the Games.

The 23rd Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang will take place on 9-25 February.

The Games will feature 102 medal events in 15 sports. 32 athletes wll represent Belarus in six sports.
