The hedgehog is one of the most popular characters in the Belarusian and Latvian mythology. No wonder it won the hearts both of a jury and hockey fans.
The jury which consisted of local celebrities, Olympic champions and officials announced the IIHF World Championship mascot on Monday, 24 February.
“The hedgehog is our hero. It fits well the spirit of Belarusian and Latvian teams: they are hardworking, fast, agile and ready to fight until the final whistle,” Nikita Ustinovich, the director of the creative agency that designed the mascot, explained.
