In a video message, the representatives of independent media in Belarus speak about the conditions in which they have to work since mid-2020. Journalists have been beaten, imprisoned, charged in criminal cases and stripped of accreditations. This year journalists were detained 479 times, the total amount of fines imposed on journalists and media amounted to BYN 59,891 [$23,286 / €19,000], nine media representatives are now in jail under criminal investigation.

Besides, in December, the Press Club management, which is engaged in journalism education projects, was detained. Founder Yulia Slutskaya was accused of tax evasion. Program Director Alla Sharko, CFO Sergei Olshevsky, cameraman Pyotr Slutsky, and Ksenia Lutskina, who is a member of the Coordination Council, a former BT journalist who participated in the projects of the Press Club Academy, was accused of complicity.
They were recognized as political prisoners. Yesterday it became known about the detention of journalist and media manager Andrei Aleksandrov, he is suspected under Art. 342 of the Criminal Code “Organization of group actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them.”
