Azarenka Drops Out Of Wimbledon One Step From Quarterfinals

Former World No 1 Victoria Azarenka has dropped out of Wimbledon after losing to Romanian Simona Halep 6:7 (3:7), 2:6 on Monday.

Azarenka – who is playing in only second event since giving birth to her first child in December – had her chances in the match, particularly in the first set.

The unseeded Belarusian twice went a break up only to allow the second-seeded Halep to break straight back.

Halep accelerated ahead to defeat Azarenka 7:6(3), 6:2 in one of the most anticipated matchups of Monday.

Victoria Azarenka started the tournament with a victory over American Catherine Bellis, and then defeated Elena Vesnina and Heather Watson.

After her return, the Belarusian won four games out of six.
