Victoria Azarenka Will Be Back To Competition Ahead Of Wimbledon

Former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka announced she is “ready to start competing” again after the birth of her son. The tennis player intends to take part in one of grass events that precede Wimbledon.

The positive statement appeared in Vika’s Twitter on Monday, 22 May.

“My training has been progressing well and I feel ready to start competing,” the Belarusian wrote.

“… plus Leo kinda said that he wants to see London and Wimbledon. I will be finalising my schedule before Wimbledon in the coming days – I plan to play one of the grass-court events prior to Wimbledon”.

Wimbledon kicks off on 3 July.

The 27-year-old Victoria Azarenka gave birth to her son Leo on 19 December and resumed court training just 1.5 month after.

Earlier, she had planned to return with the Bank of the West Classic, the WTA Premier event, on 31 July – 6 August.

The tennis player has no singles ranking, having withdrawn from last year’s French Open with a knee injury before she could reach the second round.

Last month in an interview with the New York Times, Azarenka revealed she had received a visit from Serena Williams at her home in LA in February. Now it turns out that Williams will also be taking a baby break from the women’s tour.

So Vika’s chances’re up!
