Belarus President Opens 31st ASE Planetary Congress, Calls On Mutual Space Exploration

The XXXI international planetary congress of the Association of Space Explorers (ASE) has officially kicked off in Minsk. Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the development of space technologies in Belarus at the opening ceremony on 10 September.

“The space industry is developing steadily in Belarus”, the President said. He noted that the country is producing high resolution optical systems for satellites, space mirrors, instruments for remote sensing of the Earth.

Alexander Lukashenko mentioned the country’s membership in the UN’s Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. He added that the renowned Belarusian austronauts motivate the state to participate in space exploration.

“From up there the man realizes that we are all the children of the Earth, that we are one family. We are all responsible for the future of this piece of the Universe. I am confident that together, in close cooperation, we will advance to the new milestones of space exploration. Our mutual space future should be built in trust and confidence”, the head of state concluded.

About 90 astronauts from 19 countries are attending the 31st ASE Planetary Congress in Minsk. The biggest delegations are represented by Russia and the U.S.; there are participants from Germany, Sweden, Austria, China and other states.

The congress will last till 15 September. The cosmonauts will participate in several technical sessions, visit local schools, universities and organizations. The Alley of Astronauts will be laid in Minsk Botanical Garden.

First Time In Belarus

The planetary congress is ASE’s primary forum for professional exchange among U.S., Russian and international astronauts and cosmonauts. It is designed to promote the exchange of space flight experiences and technical information concerning space operations, scientific research, mission development and astronaut training.

ASE Planetary Congress is held annually in different countries since 1985. Belarus is welcoming the forum for the first time on 9-15 September, 2018.
