The FIFA World Cup trophy was brought from Vienna to Minsk for the first time on Tuesday, 13 February, BelTA reports.
The most recognized sporting prize came to the to the Belarusian capital as part of the 51-country tour that includes 91 cities.
The tour is a rare opportunity for football lovers to see the gold trophy up-close and take a photo with it.
Young Belarusian football players, Olympic champions, coaches, sports authorities and honoured guests were among the first lucky ones.
Partaking in the event were also Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and FIFA representative Lucas Rakhov.
The famous cup will be displayed from 3pm to 10pm at the Falcon Club sports and entertainment complex to make the next stop in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The president and the participants discussed ups and downs of Belarusian football and what can be done to change the situation.
The state of affairs in swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, fencing, rowing and cycling in the country were also on the agenda.
Rather victoryless performance of our athletes at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang didn’t go unnoticed too.
Lucas Rakhov presented a reduced copy of the FIFA World Cup Trophy to Alexander Lukashenko.
It is expected that the copy will be permanently on display for public at the Palace of Independence.
