EU Ready To Discuss Minsk Proposal On Settlement Of Russia-West Relations

The EU countries are ready to discuss Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko’s proposal on launching Minsk Process, Head of the European Union Delegation to Belarus Andrea Wiktorin said in an interview to Belarus 1 TV channel on November 27.

We’ve taken notice of the proposal to create such a format, but we can not yet comment on this. As soon as we get more information, then all 28 countries, EU members, will discuss this initiative and make a decision, Wiktorin said

Alexander Lukashenko suggested launching the peace-making ‘Minsk Process’ to regulate the relations between the East and the West,  similar to the Helsinki Process, during the visit of the delegation of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union to Belarus.

The idea was put forward based on the positive effect from the Normandy-format talks in Minsk.

Andrea Wiktorin also commented on the status of the visa facilitation talks between Belarus and the EU. “The coordinating group has recently held a meeting to discuss the issues related to the relaxation of visa rules. The sides agreed to organize a meeting of experts who will discuss a range of issues hampering the signing of the agreement. If the issues are settled, progress will be made towards the signing of the visa facilitation agreement”, she explained.
