Earth Hour took place in Belarus and worldwide on Saturday 25 March. Key avenues, sights, shopping centers, cafes and universities went dark for an hour from 20.30 to 21.30.
TUT.BY’s journalists caught on video The National Library over the course of the action. However, lights of the library were turned off only for half an hour, witnesses say.
Besides Minsk, this year the action took place in Vitebsk, Brest, Baranovichi, Babruysk, Pinsk, Kobryn and Polotsk.
Earth Hour is an international environmental movement that encourages people to show they care about the future of the planet. The annual campaign engages over two billion people in 7,000 cities and towns in 170 countries.
