Oops, He Did It Again. Belarusian Brainiac Wins Google Code Jam For 5 Years In A Row

Gennady Korotkevich, a sport programmer from Gomel, has won five consecutive Google Code Jam Finals in a row in Toronto, US.

The Belarusian genius has become the first five-time champion of the prestigious international programming competition.

Google Code Jam has been hosted and administered by Google since 2003 to discover world’s top engineering talents.

This year the number of participants exceeded 60,000 people. The candidates had to solve five tasks in four hours.

However, if earlier the programmers was given an opprtunity to choose the OS, in 2018 all PCs had Linux installed.

“It was important not to spend a lot of time on technical issues and concentrate on the main thing.

I was one of the few participants who solved the task of Two-Tiling. It took a lot of time to solve it.

I spent about an hour and a half to find a solution, while the whole competition lasted four hours.

Although the task didn’t get many points, it brought me the victory,” the programmer said.

Korotkevich scored 104 points –enough to get the main prize of $15,000. The 23-year-old is one of the most titled sports programmers in the world.

In addition to Google Code Jam, he has two victories in the international programming championship ACM ICPC and five wins in Yandex.Algorithm.
