Looks like 2019 is going to be a sporty year for Belarus, as the country has received the right to host 2019 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships. It will be held in the National Winter Olympic Training Center Raubichi.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), the Belarusian Biathlon Federation told the media.
For the last two years Raubichi has been hosting the “Legends Race”, an international competition for biathletes who have completed their careers. In addition, in 2015 the complex became a venue for 2015 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships.
Belarus has already expressed willingness to host one of the stages of IBU Biathlon World Championships, TUT.BY writes. Because the schedule for the Championships has already been made up till 2018 including, the country will not be able to welcome this high-level competition in the near future. The application for hosting the IBU Biathlon World Championships can be submitted only for the next four-year period starting in 2019.
So before the World Championships, Belarus can ‘rehearse’ by hosting less rating starts, like Junior Championships or one of the stages of the IBU World Cup.
