Belarus Selects Team To Compete Against Harvard And Stanford Law Students At Jessup 2017

Students of the BSU Faculty of Law will represent Belarus at Jessup 2017 in Washington. The team was selected during the national final on 29 January.

The final ‘trial’ of 2017 Belarusian National Rounds of Jessup Moot Court Competition was attended by two teams – the teams from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University.

In April Belarus National Champion 2017 team will travel to Washington D.C. for the final rounds of the prestigious international competition.

The Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the oldest and largest international moot competition in the world, attracting participants from almost 700 law schools, including Harvard, Oxford and Stanford, in more than 90 countries in recent years.

Its popularity in Belarus has been growing in recent years – the national rounds used to feature 2-3 teams before 2016, while seven teams shortlisted for it last year. In 2017 a record of nine law teams registered for the Belarusian National Rounds.

The interest to the competition is linked with the recent successes of Belarusian law students in the Jessup. For example, the team from Belarus was 5th globally in the written competition in 2014.

In 2015 the team of 4- and 5-year law students of the Belarusian State University came second in the written competition, and repeated the success in 2016.

Fingers crossed for 2017! 😉
