The registration has started for the seventh edition of Grodno-Druskininkai International Friendship Marathon, that will take place on 9 July 2017. The event is intended to bring together amateur and professional runners from Belarus, Lithuania and other countries.
The cross-border race will start at 8:00 am (local time) in Belarusian Grodno and finish in Lithuanian Druskininkai.
“We received some 15 applications on the first registration day. Among the applicants there are citizens of the UK, the USA, Czech Republic and Germany”, Grodno region tourism officials told the media. Last year’s edition of the marathon gathered participants from nine countries.
Applications can be submitted on the official website of the marathon. The earlier the application date, the lower the fee!
An interesting thing about the marathon is that its start and the finish points are changed every year. In 2016, the race kicked off from Druskininkai’s central square, while this year, the runners will set off from the Neman Sports Center in Grodno.
The athletes will cover a distance of precisely 42km and 195m.
The marathon is certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Apart from the overall winner, the marathon will also decide winners in several age categories.
