It took almost an hour and a half for Sabalenka to beat the last year’s finalist from Australis Ashleigh Barty 7-6(2), 6-4 in the semifinals on Friday.
“I didn’t expect this level from me,” Sabalenka said, during her post-match press conference. “I’m so happy that I am on this level. Now I really like to fight. I think this is, you know, why it’s going really fast.”
On the way to the final unstoppable Aryna beat Spain’s world number 22 Carla Suarez Navarro, World No.6 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, the U.S. world number 62 Sofia Kenin and Dominika Cibulkova from Slovakia.
The 20-year-old will face Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in Saturday’s final. It will be the first time the pair have played each other.
The Belarusian rising star beat at least five top 10 players in recent weeks and currenly stands at No. 20 in the rankings.
