The 5,000th visitor to the Augustow Canal visa-free zone in Grodno region will be welcomed on 27 February, Oleg Andreichik, the head of the sports and tourism office of the Grodno Region Executive Committee told BelTA.
As of the morning of 27 February, 4,998 travelers used vise-free entry option to visit the tourism and recreation park Augustow Canal and Grodno.
“The 5,000 mark will certainly be beaten by the end of the day. By the way, last week we registered an increase in visa-free arrivals against the weekly average number of visitors”, the official said. He attributed the increase in tourist numbers to the start of a warmer season and recent celebration events.
The park expects to welcome the highest number of visa-free visitors in May. “People are already actively booking hotels and tours for May”, Oleg Andreichik said.
The Augustow Canal park became visa-free starting 26 October 2016. Since then, nationals of 30 countries have used the opportunity to come to Belarus without a visa.
The rules of entry to the Grodno zone are slightly different from the rules of 5-day visa-free entry via Minsk airport: visitors must request a free permit from a Belarusian tour operators and travel agency.
On the other hand, they can enter by land or water – via four border checkpoints, two with Poland and two with Lithuania.
