25 years and 70 states: International arts festival Slavianski Bazaar opens in Vitebsk

The 25th edition of the International festival of arts “Slavianski Bazaar” has opened on Thursday, July 14, in Vitebsk.This year representatives of 45 countries will take part in the arts forum.


For the first time the official ceremony of the opening was preceeded by a colourful parade. Dancers, drummers, artists, clowns — over 1000 people altogether — took part in the march.

Athletes carried 70 flags, equal to the total number of countries that performed at the festival throughtout its history.


At noon the participants of the parade gathered near the Summer Amphitheater, where 45 flags symbolizing this year’s participants and the flag of the festival were raised.


The International Festival of Arts “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk” is the largest cultural forum in Belarus uniting countries and continents. It was first held in 1992. The festival’s aim is expressed in its slogan “Through arts to peace and mutual understanding”.

This year the festival is taking place on 14-20 July.
