The 2019 IBU Open European Championships will be held at the Raubichi Olympic Center in Belarus.
2019 is going to be a sporty year for Belarus!
The news was made public by the press service of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation on Tuesday, 16 January.
The Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) has made this decision today.
The competitions are scheduled to take place on 18-24 February next year.
Recall that Norwegian biathlon star Ole Einar Bjoerndalen described Raubichi as one of the best complexes for summer biathlon and a good one for winter competitions.
He then said: ““It’s not my fisrt time in Raubichi. I really like the roller track here, and running in the forest. The shooting range is a challenge, you have a lot of wind here.
You can practice in an indoor shooting range when outside conditions are bad or if you want to do some special training. It’s a fantastic arena.”
The “King of Biathlon” and husband of the Belarusian star biathlete Darya Domracheva trained at the Raubichi sports complex while awaiting the birth of his daughter.
Raubichi is also expected to host the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in 2019.
The training center has a roller ski track, over 20km of ski tracks, modern shooting grounds, ski jumps, a freestyle slope, a slalom track, gyms, and an ice hockey arena among others.
It is an ideal training ground for biathletes, skiers, freestylers, skaters, ski jumpers and Nordic combined skiers.
The national winter Olympic training center Raubichi has a UIPMB certificate and can host top-level competitions without any exceptions.
