The leaders of the world figure skating scene Javier Fernández (Spain), Alina Zagitova (Russia), Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron (France) will compete at the ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2019.
The organizers of the 2019 Europeans have revealed some of the big names coming to Minsk in January.

Last competition for the legendary Fernández
A figure skating legend 27 y.o. Javier Fernández – the 2018 Olympic bronze medalist and a two-time World champion – is expected to lead the competition among men.
The Spanish athlete can boast a unique achievement – he is six-time consecutive European champion and has high chances to win his seventh title in Minsk.

Besides, Javier Fernández had already officially announced his retirement from competitive skating after the 2019 European Figure Skating Championships.
So the championship in Minsk is the fans’ last chance to see the Spanish star figure skater jump and spin for medals.
The main competitiors of Fernández are Mikhail Kolyada, 2017 European and 2018 European bronze medalist, and Maxim Kovtun, three-time European medalist, from Russia.
Russians dominate ladies’ singles
In the ladies’ singles all eyes will be on Russian Alina Zagitova. The 16 year-old holds the titles of the 2018 Olympic champion and the 2018 European champion.

Zagitova will be competing against her compatriots Stanislava Konstantinova and Sofia Samodurova. The former, by the way, surpassed Alina Zagitova at the recent 2019 Russian Championships in Saransk in December.
Pairs and ice dancing
The new 2018 Grand Prix Final champions Vanessa James and Morgan Ciprès of France will come to Minsk to compete in pairs.
Their competitors are the Russian duo Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov – the bronze medalists of 2018 Worlds and 2018 Grand Prix Final.

The figure skating fans will certainly be excited to see the ice dancing of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron. The partners are the 2018 Olympic silver medalists and three-time World champions (2015–2016, 2018).

The line-up of ice dancing program of the European Figure Skating Championships in Minsk also includes Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov (Russia), as well as the Italian duo Charlène Guignard and Marco Fabbri.
